UAE National Day 2026: 4 Simple Visa Mistakes to Avoid

Forty days from today, on Wednesday 2 December, the UAE marks its 55th Eid Al Etihad. Want parents or cousins with you in Dubai for UAE National Day 2026? The short answer is this: apply in November, not earlier. Below, we explain what is confirmed and what is still open. Then we cover four visa mistakes families make with this holiday.

We are SKY PALACE TOURISM L.L.C, an independent visa support service in Al Mankhool, Dubai. We are not part of the UAE government. Every rule below comes from ICP or a named UAE newspaper, and we checked each one on 23 October 2026.

What do we know about the holiday so far?

Some parts of the holiday are settled. Others are only expected, so plan around both.

The expected dates come from Khaleej Times' guide to the National Day long weekend, updated on 19 October. Gulf News reports the same two days. In both cases, the final word still comes from the government.

Why do so many families plan a December visit?

This year the theme itself is family. When the UAE unveiled the visual identity on 8 October, it described the country as a "family of families". The design is based on a family photo album, as Khaleej Times reported on the 55th Eid Al Etihad identity. Residents are invited to plan their own celebrations, so many will want relatives here.

The calendar helps too. Taking Friday 4 December as leave would give many residents five days off, from Wednesday to Sunday. In addition, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix runs from 3 to 6 December at Yas Marina. Global Village is also open for the season.

That busy week has a cost, though. Khaleej Times expects travel prices to rise closer to the date. So the flight is usually the first thing to fix, and the visa follows it.

UAE National Day 2026: 4 visa mistakes families make

Each December we see the same problems at our desk in Al Mankhool. None of them is about the rules being hard. They are about timing and small details.

Mistake 1: Applying too early

This one surprises people. According to the ICP visa issuance conditions, the traveller must enter the UAE within 60 days. Those 60 days start on the date the entry permit is issued.

For example, a visa issued today, 23 October, must be used by about 22 December. That still works for this holiday. However, a visa issued in early September would have expired before the celebrations. For a 2 December trip, applying in early or mid November is a sensible window.

Mistake 2: A passport that runs out too soon

ICP asks for a passport valid for at least six months. Parents often renew their own passports but forget a child's, because children's passports usually expire sooner. Check every traveller, not only the adults.

Also check the name. It should match the flight booking letter by letter, because a different spelling causes delays at check-in.

Mistake 3: Choosing 30 days when the family wants New Year too

Many families arrive at the end of November and then decide to stay for New Year's Eve. A 30-day visa from 28 November ends around 27 December. In that case, a 60-day visa is the better choice from the start.

ICP does allow extensions, but the total stay cannot go over 120 days. An extension is extra paperwork, so pick the right length first. You can compare both options on our visa fees page.

Mistake 4: Building the plan on unconfirmed holiday dates

The holiday is expected on Wednesday and Thursday. Still, the Cabinet has the power to move it. If your relatives have only a short window, book flights that can change, or add a day on each side. That way the visit still fits if the official announcement shifts the break.

Also remember that each traveller needs a separate visa, including babies. Apply for the whole family together, so the dates match.

Is there a fast option if plans change late?

Yes, but it should be a backup, not the plan. Khaleej Times reported this year that GDRFA Dubai can approve single-entry tourist visas within 48 hours. This applies when the request goes through an authorised tourism office. Approval timing is still decided by the authorities, and the holiday week is busy.

If you are short on time, look at our express visa service. Our processing times page shows the current timings. Then you can choose with real numbers instead of guesses.

How to apply for your family's visit visa

Our online form follows four steps. You can start without paying.

  1. Choose your visa and see the price. Pick 30 or 60 days, single or multiple entry. The price shows straight away.
  2. Fill in the guided form. Add each traveller's passport details, nationality and travel dates.
  3. Pay securely by card. The full price is shown before you pay.
  4. Upload documents and we submit. Send a passport copy, photo and flight ticket. Next, our team checks the file and submits it to the UAE authorities.

Questions families ask us about the National Day holiday

Is the National Day holiday for 2026 confirmed?

Not yet. As of 23 October 2026, the holiday is expected on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December. However, no official announcement has been made. We will follow the official notice when it comes.

When should my parents apply for a December visit?

Early to mid November works for most families. That keeps the 60-day entry window open past the holiday, while still leaving time to fix any document problem.

Do children need their own visit visa?

Yes. Every traveller needs a separate visa, so children and babies are included. Their passports must also meet the six-month validity rule.

Can a visit visa be extended after National Day?

ICP allows extensions, but the total stay cannot go beyond 120 days. Check the rules for your nationality on our visa requirements page first.

Plan the family visit now, apply in November

The date is fixed and the theme is family, so this is a good year for a reunion. Book flexible flights first, then check passports, then choose 30 or 60 days. Approval is always decided by the UAE authorities, so leave yourself some time. Ready to bring relatives for UAE National Day 2026?
