Sheikh Zayed Festival Visa: New Train, Easy Trip in 2026
Sheikh Zayed Festival Visa: New Train, Easy Trip in 2026

Can you land in Dubai and spend an evening at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Abu Dhabi? Yes, you can. Travellers often ask us if a Sheikh Zayed Festival visa is something separate. It is not, because a UAE tourist visa covers the whole country, not one emirate. The festival opens on Friday, 30 October 2026, at Al Wathba South.
In short, you need one visit visa and one passport check at the airport. After that, you can move between Dubai and Abu Dhabi by road or rail. So the real planning is about dates, documents and transport. Below, we cover all three, as checked on 20 October 2026.
What is on at the Sheikh Zayed Festival 2026/2027?
The new season runs for 136 days, from Friday, 30 October 2026, to Sunday, 14 March 2027. The venue is Al Wathba South in Abu Dhabi, as Khaleej Times reports.
More than 15 international pavilions are planned. They include India, China, Japan, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt and the GCC countries. There is also a Heritage Village with Emirati crafts and folk shows. In addition, the Emirates Fountain and Laser Show returns. Arab and Gulf artists also play the main stage at weekends.
Fireworks are planned every Saturday. They are also planned for National Day on Wednesday, 2 December. New Year's Eve, on Thursday, 31 December, gets fireworks too. So expect those nights to be the busiest. Hours and tickets are on the official festival website.
What does a Sheikh Zayed Festival visa cover?
The tourist visas we process are UAE entry permits. They follow federal rules, and they are not tied to Dubai alone. As a result, after passport control you can visit Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or any emirate on the same visa.
There is no border post between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In fact, you do not show your visa again on the motorway or the train. Still, carry your passport every day, because hotels and some venues ask for ID.
Is a Dubai visa valid in Abu Dhabi for a hotel stay?
Yes. Many visitors stay a night or two in Abu Dhabi, because the drive back is late. Your hotel will then ask for your passport and visa at check-in. Keep a copy on your phone and a printed copy in your bag. That way, a dead battery does not slow you down.
What changed this autumn, and what did not
Here are the facts that matter for a festival trip. We checked each one against the source in the last column.
| Item | Status on 20 October 2026 | Source |
| Tourist visa rules | No new visa or entry change in recent ICP news | ICP news page |
| Passport validity | At least 6 months | ICP visa conditions |
| Time to enter after issue | Within 60 days of the visa being issued | ICP visa conditions |
| Dubai to Abu Dhabi by train | New: passenger service began 30 September 2026 | Gulf News |
| Festival dates | 30 October 2026 to 14 March 2027 | Khaleej Times |
| Driving permit at DXB | New: instant International Driving Permit since 14 September 2026 | GDRFA Dubai |
In short, the visa side is unchanged, but the transport is new.
Getting from Dubai to the festival
Etihad Rail: fast there, but check the last train
Passenger trains now run from Al Yalayis Station in Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai. They stop at Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi. The trip takes about 57 minutes. There are five trains a day in each direction, according to Gulf News coverage of the Etihad Rail timetable.
Here is the catch for festival visitors. In the launch timetable, the last train to Dubai leaves Abu Dhabi at 5:43pm. The fireworks and laser shows, however, happen after dark. So the train works well for the trip there, but plan a taxi or car for the way back.
No station is listed at Al Wathba either. You will therefore need a taxi or a ride from Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station to the festival gate. Tickets are sold on the Etihad Rail website and app, and at station machines. Saver fares cannot be changed or refunded, so choose a Flex fare if your plans may shift.
Renting a car instead?
A car gives you the most freedom on fireworks nights. GDRFA Dubai now offers an instant International Driving Permit at Dubai International Airport. It takes about five minutes, as GDRFA Dubai announced on 14 September 2026. Check the rental company's licence rules first, because they can differ by nationality.
Which visa fits a festival trip: 30 or 60 days?
Most festival visitors come for one or two weeks, so a 30-day visa is usually enough. However, the season overlaps with National Day and New Year's Eve. If you want both, or you are planning a long family stay, a 60-day visa gives you room.
A multiple-entry visa suits people who leave and come back, for example after a short trip to Oman. Our team can tell you which option matches your dates before you pay anything. Prices depend on nationality, so please see our current visa fees rather than an old figure from a forum.
Timing matters too. ICP says you must enter the UAE within 60 days of the visa being issued. So do not apply in October for a trip in March. Instead, apply a few weeks before you fly, and check our processing times before you book flights.
Documents we check before we submit
We see the same few problems every festival season. Most are easy to fix before you apply, but hard to fix after.
- Passport validity. ICP's visa issuance conditions ask for at least six months of validity. We count from the day you land, not the day you apply. So a passport close to the limit is a risk.
- A clear photo. ICP lists a personal photo as a required document. We ask for a sharp, front-facing photo on a plain background, because blurry phone selfies cause delays.
- Name match. The name on your form must match your passport exactly. Also make sure your flight booking uses the same spelling.
Requirements can differ by country. For example, some passports qualify for visa-free entry or a visa on arrival. Check our visa requirements by nationality first, so you do not pay for something you may not need.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate visa for Abu Dhabi?
No. A UAE tourist visa lets you travel to every emirate, including Abu Dhabi. You only show it when you enter the country, so day trips need no extra paperwork.
When does the Sheikh Zayed Festival 2026 open?
It opens on Friday, 30 October 2026, and runs until Sunday, 14 March 2027. Fireworks are planned every Saturday.
Can I take the train back to Dubai after the fireworks?
Probably not. The launch timetable shows the last train to Dubai leaving Abu Dhabi at 5:43pm. Plan a taxi or car for late nights, or stay over in Abu Dhabi.
Have UAE tourist visa rules changed this month?
Not as of 20 October 2026. The recent ICP news items show no new tourist visa or entry change. For more answers, see our visa FAQs.
