Dubai Visa for Diwali: 4 Essential Dates to Avoid Stress

Diwali falls on Sunday, 8 November this year, and Dubai is planning eleven days of lights around it. Want to be here for it? Then sort out your Dubai visa for Diwali first, because it cannot wait until the last minute. This guide gives you four dates to plan around and the rules that apply today.

Here is the short answer. Most travellers from South Asia, the Philippines and Africa need a visit visa arranged before they fly. So apply in October, and the visa should be in your inbox well before the festival starts. Also, check now that your passport is valid for at least six months.

What is happening in Dubai for Diwali 2026?

Visit Dubai lists the Festival of Lights in Dubai from Monday, 2 November to Thursday, 12 November 2026. The same dates appear in the official 2026 Dubai retail calendar from the Dubai Media Office.

Expect fireworks, cultural shows and festive shopping offers. Visit Dubai also mentions prize chances with gold coins, gold bars and shopping vouchers. However, it has not yet published every venue and fireworks time. Check its page again in the week before you fly.

Media reports say the Noor festival returns to Souk Al Seef, beside Dubai Creek, from 6 to 8 November. The final programme comes from the organisers, so confirm it before you book a hotel nearby.

Diwali is not the only reason to visit in November. The Dubai Fitness Challenge runs from 31 October to 29 November. After that, the Eid Al Etihad National Day period is listed from 30 November to 3 December.

Four essential dates for your Diwali trip

We plan festival trips backwards, starting from the big night. These are the four dates our team works with, in order.

DateWhat happensWhat you do

Monday, 19 OctoberOur suggested target, not an official deadlineSend your visa application
Monday, 2 NovemberFestival of Lights beginsArrive if you want the full festival
Sunday, 8 NovemberDiwaliLand a day or two before
Thursday, 12 NovemberFestival of Lights endsMake sure your visa covers your whole stay

19 October: send your application

One week from today is a sensible target. It leaves time if we need a clearer passport scan or a missing document. Processing times vary, so see our current processing times before you book flights.

Is it too early to apply now? No. ICP's visa conditions page says an entry permit must be used within 60 days of issue. A visa issued in late October therefore still covers a mid-November trip.

2 November: the festival opens

Arrive by Monday, 2 November if you want all the festival days. Flights from South Asia can get busy around Diwali, because many families travel in the same week. Book once your visa is in hand.

8 November: Diwali night

Sunday, 8 November is the main day. Most visitors want to be in Dubai that evening for the lights. Plan to land a day or two earlier, then, rather than on the day itself.

12 November: the last day

The festival closes on Thursday, 12 November. Staying longer? A 30-day visa suits most Diwali trips. But a 60-day visa also covers the Fitness Challenge and National Day.

Dubai visa for Diwali: what the official rules say today

We checked the ICP and GDRFA Dubai news pages on 12 October 2026. Neither had announced a new tourist visa rule for this season. In short, the usual conditions apply.

First, your passport. The ICP visa issuance conditions say a passport must be valid for at least six months. Count those months from your arrival date. If it is close, renew it before you apply.

Next, documents. ICP lists a passport copy and a personal photo as common documents. For several visit categories it also lists health insurance and a return ticket. Our team tells you exactly what your own application needs.

Finally, remember who decides. Approval is always made by the UAE authorities, not by us or by any other agency.

Can Indian passport holders get a visa on arrival instead?

Some can. Indians who hold certain valid visas or residence permits, for example from the US or the EU, may qualify. However, the list is changing.

Business Standard reported in July 2026 on updated ICP guidelines. Under them, Indians holding only a UK residence visa would lose eligibility. No start date had been announced then. As a result, a traveller who qualified last year may not qualify this year.

Our advice is plain. If you are not sure you qualify, get a visit visa before you fly. Then there is nothing to question at the immigration desk. You can also check the rules for your passport on our visa requirements by nationality page.

What do travellers forget before a Diwali trip?

We hear the same worries every festival season. These are the mistakes we see most often.

  1. Booking non-refundable flights first. Instead, apply for the visa and then book, or choose a fare you can change.
  2. Travelling on a passport that is nearly out of date. Because the six-month rule counts from arrival, a passport that looks fine today can still fall short.
  3. Typing names differently from the passport. Copy every name exactly as it is printed, so the details match.
  4. Waiting until festival week. If you are late, our express visa service may help, although the authorities still set the final timing.

Frequently asked questions

1. Do I need a special visa for Diwali?

No, there is no special festival visa. A standard 30-day or 60-day tourist visa covers a Diwali visit. Choose multiple entry if you plan a side trip outside the UAE.

When should I apply for a November trip?

Apply in October if you can. Because an entry permit must be used within 60 days of issue, applying now still suits a November trip. It also leaves time to fix any document problem.

Can my whole family apply together?

Yes, but each traveller needs their own visa, children included. We can review the family's documents together, so nobody is left waiting.

What happens if my visa is declined?

Our money-back guarantee applies if your application is declined. However, the decision itself belongs to the UAE authorities, so no agency can promise approval.
