Dubai Sevens Visa: 5 Simple Answers for a Stress-Free Trip
Dubai Sevens Visa: 5 Simple Answers for a Stress-Free Trip

Five weeks from tomorrow, the Emirates Dubai 7s opens at The Sevens Stadium. It runs from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November 2026. If you are flying in to watch, you need a Dubai Sevens visa sorted before you board. The short answer: most fans need a UAE visit visa, and now is a good time to apply.
This guide answers the five questions fans ask us most. It covers timing, visa length, groups, documents and what to do if you want to stay on for National Day. We checked the official rules again today, 22 October 2026.
What is happening at the Dubai 7s this year?
The Sevens is one of Dubai's biggest weekends. According to The National's report on Dubai 7s 2026 tickets, the HSBC SVNS rugby series is still the main event. Gaelic football joins the programme for the first time. Rugby, netball, cricket, padel and fitness events also run across the weekend.
The stadium sits on Al Ain Road, about 20 minutes from central Dubai. Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November carry the international rugby. Friday is the family day, with a Ferris wheel, a zip line and a large kids' zone.
Tickets are sold through the official Emirates Dubai 7s website and app. As of that August report, Friday entry started at Dh75 and three-day passes at Dh595. Music headliners play on all three nights, although the line-up was still to be announced.
When should I apply for my Dubai Sevens visa?
Apply once your dates are fixed, but do not leave it to the last week. Here is the rule that matters most for timing.
The ICP visa issuance conditions say you must enter the UAE within 60 days of the permit being issued. So a visa issued in late October still leaves you plenty of time to land on 26 or 27 November. In other words, applying early does not waste days of your stay. Your 30 or 60 days start when you enter, not when the visa is issued.
We usually see a rush of rugby fans in the last ten days before the tournament. Flights and hotels get expensive then too, so booking both early tends to save money. Processing depends on your nationality and the time of year. You can see the current guide on our visa processing times page.
A simple timeline for fans
- This week: check your passport date, then buy your match tickets.
- Before mid-November: book flights and a hotel, then submit your visa application.
- After approval: save the e-visa as a PDF on your phone. Also print one copy.
- Before you fly: check your status on our visa status page and match the name to your passport.
- Thursday 26 or Friday 27 November: land in Dubai and head to the stadium.
Should I choose a 30-day or 60-day visa?
For the rugby alone, a 30-day visa is usually enough. The tournament lasts three days, and most fans stay a week.
However, this year the calendar invites a longer trip. The Sevens ends just before the UAE National Day holiday. Gulf News lists the expected Eid Al Etihad holiday as Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 December. The paper also says those dates are not yet officially confirmed. Then the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix follows from 3 to 6 December.
So if you plan to stay for fireworks and racing, a 60-day visa gives you room. It also covers a delayed flight home. Pick multiple entry if you might pop out to Oman or another Gulf country and come back.
What if you change your mind after arriving? ICP says a visit visa can be extended, but the total stay cannot pass 120 days. Even so, choosing the right length at the start is simpler than an extension.
Can a group of friends or a family apply together?
Yes, but every traveller needs their own visa. That includes babies and children, even when they travel on a parent's booking.
Rugby trips are often group trips. In fact, the Sevens sells a group rate for six or more adults. When a group applies, we see the same small problem again and again: one person's details do not match their passport. As a result, that one application waits while the others move on.
To keep a group together, follow these habits:
- Choose one person to collect everyone's passport scans and photos.
- Check every spelling against the passport, letter by letter, before you submit.
- Send clear colour scans, because blurred photos are a common reason for a resubmission.
- Apply for the whole group on the same day, so approvals arrive close together.
Some nationalities can get a visa on arrival, but rules differ by passport. Check yours first on our visa requirements by nationality page.
What documents do I need?
The list is short. Still, one item causes most of the trouble we see.
| Item | What ICP asks for | Our tip for fans |
| Passport | At least 6 months of validity | Count six months from your arrival date, not today. |
| Personal photo | Required for every applicant | Use a plain light background and no sunglasses. |
| Entry window | Enter within 60 days of issue | An October or November approval is fine for the Sevens. |
| Other documents | May include a return ticket or health insurance | Keep your flight booking ready in case it is requested. |
| Length of stay | 30, 60 or 90 days, by visa type | Pick 60 days if you will stay for National Day. |
The passport rule is the one that catches people. For example, a passport ending in April 2027 is too short for a 27 November arrival. Renew it first, then apply.

Dubai 7s visa FAQs
Is a match ticket enough to enter the UAE?
No. A ticket is not a visa. You still need a valid visit visa or a visa on arrival, depending on your passport.
Can I use my Dubai visa to watch the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi?
Yes, a UAE visit visa lets you travel between the emirates. There is no visa check on the road from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.
My visa was approved weeks ago. Is it still valid?
Probably, but check the date. You must enter within 60 days of issue, so look at the issue date on your e-visa.
Do children need a separate visa?
Yes. Every traveller needs their own visa, whatever their age. Apply for the whole family together to keep things simple. Our visa FAQs cover more family questions.
